INTENTION
The International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf is intended to bring together the world’s best choirs in order to provide them with the opportunity, not only to compare with each other but also to discuss choral literature from the individual countries, interpretation, styles, voice-training and techniques. In order to achieve both aims, the programme is so arranged that the individual choirs will have a chance to work together on a common work, under the baton of a renowned conductor, as well as participating in the competition. The main aim here is an international meeting with music as the central theme.

The total duration, from the beginning of the first piece until the end of the last piece - not just the singing time! - must not be less than 20 minutes and not more than 25 minutes. The performance time will not be interrupted by applause.
For each category, choirs will be expected to perform one compulsory work.

The choir has complete freedom in its choice of additional works within the maximum performance time of 25 minutes (including the compulsory work). It is allowed to reduce the number of singers up to 50% maximum for Renaissance and Early Baroque repertoire (avoiding soloist singing). Maximum one work written by the conductor is admitted.
In the 2. lap of the competition, the choir can choose freely a 10 minutes performing time programme. This may also include instrumental accompaniment and dance.
VALUATION/ JURY
